Our approach

We start with the soil, not the spray schedule

Healthy ground grows crops that resist pests and hold yield through dry spells. Every Tilth plan begins with a baseline soil test and builds organic matter year on year, so certification becomes the result of good farming rather than a box to tick.

Your road to organic

The timeline below follows the USDA National Organic Program. Switch region at the top of the page to see the other market.

MONTH 0

Baseline

Soil tests, land history, and a record of the last prohibited input applied to each field.

MONTHS 1–12

Transition

Cover crops, rotation changes and approved inputs only. Record-keeping starts on day one.

MONTHS 12–36

Build

Fertility builds, yields settle. Crops can be sold as transitional but not yet labelled organic.

MONTH 36+

Certified

After inspection, harvests can carry the USDA Organic seal.

The ruleUSDA organic land must be free of prohibited substances for 36 months before the crop is harvested.
